It is best to apply in a position that is similar to your previous job, or if you are a new applicant, send applications to positions that suit to the degree you have finished.

In setting up your profile, make sure that all of the text boxes are accomplished properly. A photo is also important and so be reminded to upload it too, and when you send your emails, use the standard fonts that are readable in all computer programs such as arial or times new roman.
Building a network of professionals who can recommend you or a network who you can contact for job recommendations is also a good idea. A good way to develop business contacts is by joining organizations or volunteer groups, make sure you exchange numbers and let them know you are searching for a job opening.
Another advise is to clean up your online history, and this means do not post blogs that have provocative messages, or posting pictures in compromising situations, etc. because you will never know if your potential employer might do some social media background checks.
